Network Management and Optimization

In today’s data-centric society is increasingly important to identify network failure root causes quickly and accurately, before they are experienced by the end-user. Caliper’s Network Management and Optimization suite provide location-aware, device-based information and insight to RF engineers so they can quickly remedy customer-facing network problems with greater speed and accuracy than with drive test systems or network-based diagnostic tools.

Caliper analytics help network teams improve spectrum efficiency and quality of service on new and existing networks by providing insights               into parameter optimization, load balancing, site location and configuration, and optimizing resource management features.

Network configuration or software changes, usage patterns, device population, and configuration as well as environmental factors such as foliage and weather can impact network performance and ultimately customer satisfaction. Degrading network performance spread over time often fails to trigger system alarms or provide clear indications of the cause necessary to address and correct problems. Caliper TestNet offers advanced analytics to spot trends progressively and identify sources of performance issues.

  • Accurately diagnose call failures

  • Identify root-cause by time, location, and device

  • Detect and diagnose handoff problems between legacy air interface technologies

  • Matrix by time and geography first-occurrence failures and correlate against CPE and network changes

Small Cell Deployment

As 5G and LTE-Advanced push up against Shannon’s Limit, carriers are forced to rely on spatial multiplexing to increase network capacity and performance, yet zoning laws and availability limit available locations for towers and small cell deployments. Traditional drive testing cannot identify temporal patterns and often cannot fully reach critical locations such as indoors where nearly 70% of data consumption occurs. Network-based testing only sees devices that successfully connect to the network, may not provide accurate location information and often burdens the network with unnecessary OSS traffic loads. The result is incomplete information provision that can slow or impede fast, accurate network deployment and performance diagnosis.

Better Than Drive Testing

Device-based data collection provides greater randomization and temporal information than traditional drive testing services, which are expensive and can create significant gaps in test coverage when anomalies occur while the drive system is not present. As cells fluctuate with changes in loading and traffic, drive systems can provide only a brief snapshot whereas device-based testing utilizes large numbers of test nodes randomly disbursed in the coverage area to provide greater insight into intermittent and load-variant system faults over time. Caliper analytics help network teams improve spectrum efficiency and end-user quality of service on new and existing networks by providing insights into load balancing, parameter optimization, site location and configuration, and optimizing resource management features.

A caliper can also provide feedback and analytical diagnostics to identify
underperforming CPE devices on the network to eliminate and prevent weak spots. By tapping into proprietary baseband diagnostics and cataloging device configurations via unique serial identifiers, Caliper provides critical feedback information to OEMs and carriers before CPE devices trigger customer satisfaction issues.
